FIVe
The best young Norwegian saxophonists meet in Zanussi Five. Together with the talented Norwegian drummer Gard Nilssen they flesh out Per Zanussi’s compositions, with its echoes of 1950s exotica, film music, afro beat and contemporary jazz. Since 2001 bassist Per Zanussi has been shaping his Zanussi Five and last year he assembled a 13 piece version (Zanussi 13) to vent his musical ideas even further. About Zanussi Five: ‘This music is vibrant, fast, and very modern. It is expressionistic, replete with saxophones that sigh, moan, honk, and howl. At the same time, it bursts with energy and swing.
