JORRIT DIJKSTRA

PanDeLIS KaRaYORGIS

Saxophonist Jorrit Dijkstra and Greek pianist Pandelis Karayorgis met in the Boston improvised music scene, where they both reside. They also have a close musical connection to the Chicago jazz scene, through Jorrit’s groups (Pillow Circles and Flatlands Collective) and Pandelis’s bands (featuring Ken Vandermark, Nate McBride and Dave Rempis). Pandelis Karayorgis is well known for his profound knowledge of the music of Thelonious Monk. His own compositions also bear elements of Lennie Tristano, Cecil Taylor and Misha Mengelberg. Jorrit Dijkstra performed with Guus Janssen and Joost Buis’ Astronotes. He is also active as a composer for the David Kweksilber Big Band. The duo mainly performs original material, as well as some pieces by Steve Lacy and Lennie Tristano.
